Viacom International Media Networks has hired Turner UK’s Director of General Entertainment Jemma Yates.
The broadcaster has tapped Yates to serve as Vice President Content for Comedy Central International, a role which will see her assume responsibility for programming VIMN’s international Comedy Central channels. Jemma Yates will be based in London and will report directly to Jill Offman, Managing Director of Comedy Central UK & Senior Vice President of Comedy for VIMN.
In her time at Turner, Yates was responsible for launching the company’s TruTV brand in the UK and as such had a key role in securing the UK rights to Conan O’Brien’s talk show for the nascent channel. Another key programming move she was responsible for a Turner UK was the acquisition of Longmire for TCM.
“As we start to commission far more of our own original comedy and acquire more series to share across our international network of channels, it will be extremely valuable to have someone with Jemma’s international brand experience”, said Jill Offman. “I’m thrilled she is joining on us on our march towards global comedy domination!”
While Jemma Yates, who will take up her new post at VIMN in January 2015, added: “I have always admired Comedy Central for its ability to be as warm as an old friend while introducing the unexpected, the edgy and the exciting. I can’t wait to join a company where ultimately my job is to find new ways to make people laugh every day!”
