UKTV is continuing the rollout of their on-demand hub UKTV Play.
The commercial network – which is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks Interactive – has launched the new VoD service online at a dedicated website and on IPTV service YouView, where it will be housed a dedicated UKTV Play-branded area.
UKTV Play, which was originally unveiled in June of this year, aims to be a one-stop shop for UKTV’s on-demand offerings, by consolidating the existing feeds for their FTA channels (Dave, Really, Yesterday) into one online brand. The service allows users to browse and view content by channel brand, as well as featuring “staff picks”, boxsets and curated topics/events (under “Collections”).
This marks the latest launch for UKTV Play, which was first made available on iOS devices in July via Apple’s App Store, where it was featured in the “Best New Apps” section. It also comes mere days after UKTV agreed a deal with Virgin Media to make their on-demand offerings available to Virgin TV customers, with the launch of UKTV Play on that platform set for December.
“We created UKTV Play to give viewers access to UKTV’s fantastic content anytime, anywhere via a single on-demand destination”, said UKTV’s Director of Commercial & Business Development Dan Fahy, who is overseeing UKTV Play alongside UKTV’s General Manager of VOD Emma Boston. “UKTV’s viewers really embraced the new UKTV Play app when it launched on iOS in the summer and the launch of UKTV Play on PC and YouView marks the next step in growing UKTV’s first fully-digital brand.”
