Arthur & George is continuing to assemble its cast.
Relative newcomer Pearl Chanda, whose only other television credit is a brief guest appearance on BBC One’s Holby City, has joined the cast of the three-part drama which is based on the novel of the same name by Julian Barnes, TVWise has learned exclusively.
Arthur & George is set in 1903 and tells the story of Conan Doyle who, following the death of his first wife, recaptures his zest for life by attempting to overturn a miscarriage of justice which saw George Edalji sentenced to seven years in Pentonville Prison for The Great Wyrley Rippings. It is being produced by Buffalo Pictures and directed by Stuart Orme. Ed Whitmore penned the script.
Pearl Chanda will play Maud Edalji, George Edalji’s younger sister. She is the latest addition to an already impressive cast which includes Martin Clunes (Doc Martin), Arsher Ali (The Guilty), Hattie Morahan (The Bletchley Circle), Art Malik (Holby City), Emma Fielding (Silk), Charles Edwards (Downton Abbey) and Sandra Voe (Holby City).
The three-part drama began production last month in London and Staffordshire. Arthur & George is expected to premiere on ITV in 2015.
