Grumpy Cat is making a stop in the UK.
Lifetime UK has picked up the broadcast rights to Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, the TV movie ordered by the US Lifetime network as part of their Christmas output, TVWise has learned. It will premiere on Lifetime UK on Thursday December 4th at 9pm.
Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever tells the story of the eponymous cat who, develops a sour outlook on life after never getting chosen by the customers of the pet store. That all changes when, during the holidays, a 12-year-old girl named Chyrstal enters the pet store and falls in love with her after realizing she is the only person who can hear this unique cat talk. As the two develop a close friendship during the holiday rush, Grumpy reluctantly thwarts the kidnapping of an exotic dog she dislikes, and on Christmas Eve rescues Chyrstal after the mall closes.
Aubrey Plaza, best known for playing April on NBC’s cult comedy series Parks and Recreation, voices Grumpy Cat. Evan Todd, Dan Roebuck, Megan Charpentier and Isaac Haig also star in the TV movie, which was penned by Jeff Morris and Tim Hill, who also directed. The executive producers is Arturo Interian, while Ben Lashes served as co-executive producer.
The is the latest pick up for Lifetime UK, who have been on an acquisitions spree of late. The female skewing broadcaster also recently closed deals to pick up the UK rights to the Stephen King adaptation Big Driver, which aired on October 30th; and the Lionsgate Television produced mini-series Rosemary’s Baby starring Zoe Saldana and Patrick J. Adams – which is set to debut on November 17th.
