Kathryn Hahn is returning to Showtime’s Happyish.
The actress has signed on to star as the female lead in the show’s second pilot, reprising the role she played in the original opposite Phillip Seymour Hoffman before his untimely death earlier this year, TVWise has learned.
Happyish follows Thom Payne, a 44 year-old man whose world is thrown into disarray when his 25 year-old “wunderkind” boss arrives, saying things like “digital,” “social” and “viral.” Is he in need of a “rebranding,” as his mentor insists, or does he just have a “low joy ceiling,” as his corporate headhunter suggests? Maybe pursuing happiness is a fool’s errand? Maybe, after 44 years on this ludicrous planet, settling for happyish is the best one can expect.
Kathryn Hahn plays Lee, Thom Payne’s wife and mother to their six-year-old son Julius who is described as being “honest and direct to a fault”. Hahn is the first member of the original cast to agree to return to the project since Showtime officially ordered a new pilot last month with British actor Steve Coogan assuming Hoffman’s role as Thom Payne.
Happyish was created by Shalom Auslander and developed by Ken Kwapis, who directs and will executive produce through his Cahoots banner. Kwapis’ producing partner Alexandra Beattie co-executive produces. Production on the new Happyish pilot is expected to commence in New York City this December.
