AMC is adding to the cast of their martial arts drama Badlands.
Emily Beecham (The Village), Oliver Stark (My Hero) and Sarah Bolger (Once Upon A Time) have landed series regular roles on the drama, which was picked up with a six episode straight-to-series order at the network back in July. In addition to the castings, AMC has also announced that Shanghai Knights helmer David Dobkin has signed on to direct.
Loosely based on the classic Chinese tale “Journey to the West”, Badlands is set in a land controlled by feudal barons and tells the story of a great warrior and a young boy who embark on a journey across a dangerous land to find enlightenment.
It is being produced by AMC Studios and is expected to air in late 2015 or early 2016. Al Gough and Miles Millar are penning the script and will executive produce alongside Stacy Sher, Michael Shamberg, Daniel Wu and Stephen Fung.
“I am thrilled to be directing ‘Badlands,’” said David Dobkin, who in addition to directing will also serve as an executive producer. “Aside from the amazing group of people I get to work with – everyone at AMC, plus Stacy and Michael, and Al and Miles for the second time – it’s a brilliant, visionary project that finally gives the fan-boy in me something to dig my teeth into.”
