The fifth season of The Walking Dead is breaking ratings records on both sides of the Atlantic.
Mere hours after AMC revealed that the season premiere of the Zombie drama drew a huge audience of 17.3 million viewers, smashing the show’s previous ratings record by 7%, the season 5 opener also broke ratings records for UK broadcaster Fox UK.
The Walking Dead drew an initial audience of 738 000 viewers on the FIC owned channel, with the two subsequent airings last night bringing the total overnight audience to 824 100 viewers. With those numbers, the premiere has set a new series high for Fox UK and ranks as the broadcaster’s biggest ever overnight audience since they launched more than a decade ago.
The AMC zombie drama has long been a hit for Fox UK , who have first run rights to the series in the UK thanks to a huge deal struck by parent company Fox International Channels several years ago. Each and every season has registered significant ratings growth, with the consolidated average audience for the show having grown from 0.6 million in season one to more than 1.2 million in season four.
