Syfy’s has set a premiere date for their series adaptation of 12 Monkeys.
The network has announced that the drama, which is one of several to have been green-lit in recent months since Syfy recommitted to scripted originals under new EVP of Original Content Bill McGoldrick, will unspool its 12 episode first season from Friday January 16th at 9/8c.
12 Monkeys tells the story of a time traveller from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race.
Based on the feature film of the same name, the series was penned by Terry Matalas & Travis Fickett and is produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment. 12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford (Nikita), Amanda Schull (Pretty Little Liars), Noah Bean (Damages) and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe). The executive producers are Charles Roven and Richard Suckle.
Speaking at the time that the project received a series greenlight, Syfy President Dave Howe said: “‘12 Monkeys’ is a captivating time travel adventure and high stakes race against the clock. We are thrilled to add it to our slate of engaging and thought-provoking new scripted projects”. That slate also includes Z Nation, The Expanse, Dominion, Olympus, Hunters, Killjoys and event series Ascension and Childhood’s End.
