Sky Living has renewed Dolly Wells and Emily Mortimer’s comedy series Doll & Em for a second season, TVWise has learned.
The series, created by and starring Wells and Mortimer, wrapped its six episode first season on the channel in March and took a look at what happens when your best friend becomes a Hollywood star and you find yourself employed as their personal assistant.
The second season of Doll & Em will see the story (and production) relocate to New York where Doll and Em are preparing to take on Broadway. But it’s not long before they’re tackling the pitfalls of curtain calls on the Big Apple’s famous stage. The new run of episodes will feature a wealth a A-list guest stars, as did the show’s first season.
“I am extremely pleased to be able to confirm that Doll & Em will be returning to Sky Living next year”, said Antonia Hurford-Jones, Director of Sky Living. “I’m so proud to have such an outstanding series on the channel. The extraordinarily smart, brilliantly funny way Dolly and Emily bring the universal theme of female friendship alive makes it the perfect series for Living. I hope our customers are as excited as I am about series 2.”
Doll & Em has the distinction of being the first of Sky’s original comedy commissions to land a prime slot on HBO, after the US premium cable network acquired the series from Sky’s international distribution division Sky Vision. The company will also distribute the second season, which is expected to premiere on Sky Living in 2015.
