Sky Living is making a stop in Foggy Bottom.
The broadcaster has struck a deal with CBS Studios International to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to CBS’ Tea Leoni fronted State Department drama Madam Secretary, TVWise has learned.
Penned by Barbara Hall, Madam Secretary follows the personal and professional life of maverick female Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life. The drama is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Tea Leoni, Tim Daly, Zeljko Ivanek, Bebe Neuwirth, Erich Bergen, Geoffrey Arend, Patina Miller, Evan Roe and Katherine Herzer.
“Madam Secretary is television at its very best; strong characters and gripping storylines that draw in the viewer week after week,” said Stephen Tague, Senior Vice President, Europe for CBS Studios International. “We are pleased to continue working with Sky to bring the best US programming to UK audiences.”
Madam Secretary is only the second drama from the 2014-2015 season that Sky Living has acquired out of the LA Screenings and follows the recent deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution for the Dylan McDermott fronted drama Stalker. The deal for Madam Secretary was brokered by CBS’ Stephen Tague and Sky’s Senior Acquisitions Manager Julia Stuart.
“I knew as soon as I saw Madam Secretary at this year’s L.A. screenings it was perfect for Sky Living,” said Antonia Hurford-Jones, Director of Sky Living. “It’s a smart, pacy quality drama which has you hooked from the start. I feel confident our customers are going to love it.”
At Sky Living the series joins a strong line up of imported US drama, which, in addition to the aforementioned Stalker, includes Criminal Minds, Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Elementary, Hannibal, The Blacklist and Chicago Fire.
