Showtime has set the two leads for their drama pilot Billions.
Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis are set to star in the hour long financial drama, which hails from Andrew Ross Sorkin, David Levien and Brian Koppelman, TVWise has learned.
Billions takes a forensic look at the world of high finance by tracking the approaching collision between two titanic figures – the hard charging, whip-smart U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhodes (Paul Giamatti), and the brilliant, ambitious hedge fund king, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis).
The drama was penned by Andrew Ross Sorkin, David Levien and Brian Koppelman, all three of whom also executive produce. Divergent helmer Neil Burger has signed on to direct the pilot, which is set to begin production in New York early next year.
This marks a reunion of sorts for Showtime and Damian Lewis, who starred in the first three seasons of Homeland as Nicholas Brody. Since exiting the show last year, he has been cast in a starring role in the BBC/PBS co-production Wolf Hall, which is set to air in 2015. Paul Giamatti has also been active in British television of late, with a recurring role on Downton Abbey.
