After initially entering the arena with Bojack Horseman, Netflix is moving forward with another animated comedy.
The streaming giant has handed a series order to F For Family, a six episode animated comedy from Bill Burr and Emmy award winner Michael Price, TVWise has learned.
F Is For Family follows the Murphy family in the 1970’s, a time when you could smack your kid, smoke inside and bring a gun to the airport. The voice cast includes Bill Burr as Frank, the family patriarch; Laura Dern (The Fault In Our Stars) as Sue, Frank’s wife; and Justin Long (Mom) as Kevin, Frank and Sue’s oldest son.
The animated series, which will debut in 2015 in all territories where Netflix has a presence, was created by Bill Burr & Michael Price and is being produced by Wild West Television and Gaumont International Television – the independent studio behind Netflix’s Hemlock Grove and NBC’s Hannibal. The executive producers are Burr, Vince Vaughn, Peter Billingsley and Michael Price, who also serves as the showrunner.
“Bill Burr’s stand-up specials are wildly popular for us worldwide, and we’re looking forward to presenting his at once nostalgic and unflinching take on the family comedy in this original, animated series,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix.
“Bill Burr’s voice in capturing the moment to moment comedy in our daily lives is infectious and relatable,” added Katie O’Connell, CEO of Gaumont International Television. “We’re thrilled to bring his hilariously edgy style of comedy to F is for Family with our partners at Wild West Television. This also gives us the chance to show off the great wealth of animation talent at Gaumont Animation. Netflix is the perfect home for this series.”
