BBC Two has released the first image of Benedict Cumberbatch in costume as Richard III in The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses.
The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses is the second run of BBC Two’s critically acclaimed The Hollow Crown, which consisted of three Shakespeare adaptations. This new run consists of a further three parts – a two-part adaptation of Henry VI and one-part adaptation of Richard III.
The cast for the three adaptations includes Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Judi Dench (James Bond), Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Sophie Okonedo (The Escape Artist), Sally Hawkins (Great Expectations), Tom Sturridge (The Boat That Rocked), Andrew Scott (Sherlock), Michael Gambon (Harry Potter), Philip Glenister (From There To Here), Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty) and Ben Daniels (House of Cards).
Ben Power penned the scripts for all three parts of The Wars of The Roses, which is being produced by Neal Street Productions & NBCUniversal’s Carnival Films and directed by Dominic Cooke. Rupert Ryle-Hodges is set as the series producer, while David Horn, Gareth Neame, Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris and Nicolas Brown are serving as executive producers. Production on The Wars of The Roses is now underway for a 2015 premiere.
“After the critical and popular success of the first part of The Hollow Crown – and seven years after we very first suggested the idea to the BBC – I am delighted to announce the start of principal photography on the second half of this magnificent epic story”, said Executive Producer Sam Mendes. “Yet again we have assembled an amazing cast – led by Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Hugh Bonneville, and Sophie Okenedo, amongst many others – under the direction of the hugely talented Dominic Cooke. I’m very excited indeed to see them all bring the rest of this astonishing story to life.”
