Cas Anvar (Olympus), Dominique Tipper (Vampire Academy), Wes Chatham (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and Florence Faivre (The Following) have joined the cast of Syfy’s upcoming 10 episode space-opera series The Expanse.
The Expanse is set two hundred years in the future, after mankind has colonized the solar system. A hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain come together for what starts as the case of a missing young woman and evolves into a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history.
The join a cast which also includes Steven Strait (Magic City) as Captain Holden, Thomas Jane (Hung) as Detective Miller, and Shohreh Aghdashloo (24) as Chrisjen Avasarala, a member of Earth’s governing body. Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), Paulo Costanzo (Royal Pains), and Jay Hernandez (Gang Related) are also set to appear in the series in recurring guest roles.
Produced by Alcon Television, The Expanse is based on the book series of the same name and was adapted for television by Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby, both of whom serve as executive producers alongside Sharon Hall, Andrew Kosove. Broderick Johnson and Naren Shankar. Breaking Bad helmer Terry McDonough is attached to direct the opening two episodes of the series, which has now begun production in Toronto. Legendary Global Television Distribution is handling global sales.
The Expanse is one of several new dramas that Syfy is preparing for 2015. In addition to The Expanse, they have Olympus (also starring Cas Anavar), a series adaptation of 12 Monkeys, miniseries Childhood’s End, starring Game Of Thrones‘ Charles Dance; Killjoys, starring Warehouse 13 alum Aaron Ashmore; and Dark Matter, a space series from Stargate alums Paul Mullie and Joseph Mallozzi.
