Shonda Rhimes’ newest show is heading to Universal Channel.
The NBCU owned broadcaster has sealed a deal with Disney Media Distribution to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast right to Rhime’s upcoming ABC drama How To Get Away With Murder, TVWise has learned.
How To Get Away With Murder is described as a sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller about a group of ambitious law students and their brilliant, mysterious criminal defense professor who become entangled in a murder plot that will rock the entire university and change the course of their lives.
The series, which is set to premiere on Universal Channel later this year, was created by Peter Nowalk and is produced by Rhimes’ banner Shondaland and ABC Studios. How To Get Away With Murder stars Viola Davis, Matt McGorry, Aja Naomi King, Jack Falahee, Alfred Enoch Billy Brown, Katie Findlay, Karla Souza, Charlie Weber and Liza Weil.
“How To Get Away With Murder is a contemporary twist on the whodunit that will leave viewers hooked from the first episode. Sassy, mysterious and fast-paced, the drama is sure to be a huge talking point and is an exciting addition to our autumn schedule”, said Nicky Douglas, Managing Director, UK, Universal Networks International. “Shonda Rhimes has an impressive track record of creating compelling television and we’re thrilled to be the ones bringing her latest project to the UK.”
How To Get Away With Murder is the latest show from the 2014-2015 season acquired by a UK broadcaster out of the LA Screenings. It follows on from Channel 5’s deal for Gotham and Sky1’s deals for The Flash and Forever. The show also marks the latest major US import for Universal Channel who last year acquired broadcast shows Rake and Sleepy Hollow.
