Fortitude is going global.
Sky Vision, the international distribution division of satcaster BSkyB, has sold the upcoming 12 episode Sky Atlantic drama to numerous broadcasters around the world, TVWise has learned.
Canal + in France, TV2 Denmark, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, Canada’s Super Channel, NRK Norway, RUV Iceland, DBS Israel and OTE in Greece have all snapped up the drama series, ahead of its launch at MIPCOM next month.
Sky Vision’s deals with these broadcasters follows on from securing Participant Media’s Pivot network as a co-producer, after the first co-production partner, US premium cable network Starz, backed out. The company has also sold home entertainment rights to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and PBS Distribution.
Created by Simon Donald, Fortitude tells the story of a mysterious death in a close-knit community in the Arctic Circle and features a cast which includes, amongst others, Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games), Michael Gambon (Harry Potter), Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing) and Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones). Tiger Aspect Productions’ Fifty Fathoms Label is producing.
“We are thrilled by the response this series has already achieved worldwide”, said Jane Millichip, Managing Director of Sky Vision. “What sets this show apart is its ambition and scale. Driven by Sky Atlantic to deliver the best talent, writers and producers in this area, Fortitude delivers global themes with an international cast across a full twelve episodes. It’s gripping television and Fifty Fathoms has delivered a series that we know international drama buyers love.”
