Detective Sergeant Phil Cerreta meet The Godbergs.

Paul Sorvino, who played Detective Logan’s (Chris Noth) partner on the second and third seasons of Law & Order, has reportedly landed a guest role on the second season of ABC’s 1980s set comedy series The Goldbergs.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Sorvino will play Pop Pop, Murray’s father who is described as “a cranky, put-upon curmudgeon who has been emotionally unavailable to his children for their entire lives”.

From Adam Goldberg and Sony Pictures Television, The Goldbergs is inspired by Goldberg’s life and follows the exploits a family with and in-your-face mother, a hot-tempered father and three eccentric children.

The comedy, which stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, George Segal, Darien Provost and Troy Gentile, was one of the few freshman series from ABC’s 2013-2014 schedule to swing a renewal. The second season of The Goldbergs premieres on Wednesday September 24th at 8:30pm.
