CBBC’s kids series Hank Zipzer is going global.
DHX Media has lined up a raft of deals with international broadcasters for the Henry Winkler created series, which was recently renewed by CBBC for a second season, TVWise has learned.
The international distributor has sold the series to Disney Channel in Spain, Italy, Benelux, and Latin America; SVT in Sweden ; NRK in Norway; ABC3 in Australia and e-Junior in the United Arab Emirates.
Based on the children’s book series by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver, Hank Zipzer follows the life of 13-year-old Henry ‘Hank’ Zipzer whose glass is half full, but he just spills it everywhere…His brain works differently to those around him, and he has a great imagination, but doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with his parents and teachers. The series stars Nick James, Henry Winkler and Felicity Montagu.
“It’s no surprise that we have found international broadcasters for this series, given its universal themes, humour and sensitivity which are relatable the world over”, said Josh Scherba, DHX Media’s Senior Vice-President of Distribution. “The popular books written by Henry Winkler have translated easily into an irrepressible series which is full of energy and fun – not least in his performance as the inspiring mentor, Mr Rock.”
