Universal Channel has acquired the rights to air The Practice spin-off Boston Legal, TVWise has learned.
Created by David E. Kelley, Boston Legal follows the exploits of legendary lawyer Denny Crane, his close friend a brilliant attorney Alan Shore and the partners and associates of Boston law firm Crane, Poole & Schmidt, which specialises in civil law. The cast includes Bill Shatner, James Spader, Rene Auberjonois, Mark Valley and Candice Bergen.
The series is a spin-off of the long-running legal drama The Practice and, while taking a decidedly lighter tone than its parent series, it still enjoyed a successful run, airing five season on ABC between 2004 and 2008. The characters of Denny Crane and Alan Shore were introduced on the final season of The Practice, which has never aired in the UK.
Boston Legal has previously aired in the UK on Living and is the latest acquisition for Universal Channel. The drama focussed channel recently acquired re-runs of CSI: Miami and is the first run home to such series as Bates Motel, Graceland, Major Crimes and Necessary Roughness. Boston Legal will premiere on Universal Channel on Monday September 1st and will air weekdays in the 7pm time-slot.
