UKTV’s Yesterday channel has signed on to co-produce a one-off documentary about the construction of the Berlin Wall.
Berlin Wall: The Night The Iron Curtain Closed charts the events which led to the construction of the wall, which split Berlin in two. The one-off documentary will utilise dramatic reconstructions, expert analysis, eyewitness reports, letters, diaries and personal photos. It will also feature an interview with Adam Kellett-Long, a Western journalist who witnessed the construction.
The documentary, set to air in November, is an international co-production which is being produced by Sky Vision Production in association with UKTV, SBS Australia, S4c Wales and the American Heroes Channel in the United States. BSkyB’s international distribution division Sky Vision is handling global distribution.
“The wall’s construction is as fascinating a moment in world history, if not more so, than its destruction”, said Sky Vision Productions’ Danny Tipping, who is serving as an Executive Producer on the project. “Whilst many documentaries focus on the wall coming down, we are the only producer lucky enough to work with Adam whose breath-taking recollections of a moment in world history are truly astonishing. This is the first time the event has been brought to life through the eyes of one of the few man who actually saw it happen.”
