Richard Madden, Holliday Grainger and James Norton are to star in BBC One’s adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, TVWise has learned.
Based on the 1928 novel by DH Lawrence, Lady Chatterley’s Lover is an early-20th-century tale of love across class boundaries which tells the legendary and romantic story of Lady Chatterley’s affair with her gamekeeper Oliver Mellors.
Game Of Thrones alum Richard Madden has been cast as Oliver Mellors; Bonnie & Clyde‘s Holliday Grainger will play Lady Chatterley; while Happy Valley and Grantchester star James Norton, who was recently cast in a leading role in the BBC Two drama Life In Squares, will portray Sir Clifford Chatterley.
Lady Chatterley’s Lover is being adapted for television by Line of Duty and Critical creator Jed Mercurio, who is also attached to direct. Sherlock indie Hartswood Films is producing in association with Serena Cullen Productions. The executive producers are Beryl Vertue and Lucy Richer.
A one-off 90 minute drama, Lady Chatterley’s Lover is one of four literary dramas that the BBC has ordered as part of their season on classic 20th century literature. The other three dramas are Laurie Lee’s Cider With Rosie, from Ben Vanstone; LP Hartley’s The Go-Between, which hails from The Musketeers creator Adrian Hodges; and An Inspector Calls, from The Honourable Woman producer Drama Republic.
