HBO has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming third and final season of The Newsroom.
Created by Aaron Sorkin, The Newsroom centers on a cable news anchor, his new executive producer, his newsroom staff and their boss as they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal relationships. The drama series stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston, John Gallagher Jr, Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel and Olivia Munn.
HBO picked up the cable news drama for a third and final season in January of this year. The decision to end the show was made due to the busy schedule of series creator Aaron Sorkin, who has a number of project in development. The final season is expected to pick up directly from season two, which saw Newsnight run a false story concerning a military operation in Pakistan.
The trailer, which runs 40 seconds, shows an office copier as it prints a script, revealing some of the dialogue from the new season. Per this script, the final season revolves around a whistleblower, with Reese declaring that he is going to be sent to jail. The plot point, it seems, will result in Will McAvoy offering his resignation. The teaser then closes with the revelation that the final season will premiere in November.
