International distributor DCD Rights has sold the short-lived ITV series Penn & Teller: Fool Us to Universal Channel in Asia and Prava I Prevodi in the Balkans, TVWise has learned.
Penn & Teller: Fool Us is a magic series hosted by Jonathan Ross in which aspiring magicians are invited to perform their best trick to try and fool the world-famous team of Penn & Teller. Anyone who succeeds wins the right to perform with Penn & Teller in their celebrated show at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Produced by September Films and 1/17 Productions, the series was originally commissioned by UK broadcaster ITV and aired one season in 2011 before being cancelled. DCD Rights handles sales on both the format and the completed programme. More recently they sold the show to US network The CW, who began airing Penn & Teller: Fool Us last month.
“We’re delighted to have secured a pan-Asia sale through Universal Channel, magic shows like Penn & Teller resonate well in this region”, said Nicky Davies Williams, CEO of DCD Rights.
While Penn & Teller’s long time manager Peter Golden added: “Penn & Teller have an amazing global presence as primetime presenters of skilful magic and illusions, and we are thrilled that yet another major broadcaster will showcase the show.”
