Channel 4 has given the green-light to Time Crashers, a entertainment format which sees celebrities immersing themselves in various historical periods.
The series follows eight celebrities who wake up somewhere in Britain, having “crashed” into a different time from the past. Once there, they will be fully immersed in the specific era and will have to assimilate fast to perform well in the respective challenges, which are determined by the specific time period they have “crashed” into.
Time Crashers is being produced by GroupM Entertainment and Wall To Wall Media, with Rachel Watson and Martin Oxley serving as the executive producers. The series is expected to enter production in March 2015 for a premiere later that same year, when Channel 4 will strip Time Crashers across a single week.
“Both our celebrity contributors and the viewers at home will feel uniquely transported to a wide range of historically significant eras in what promises to be a really special, and very fun, show for the Channel”, said Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor for Entertainment Madeleine Knight, who commissioned the series alongside Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment Justin Gorman.
Leanne Klein, Chief Executive Officer of Wall To Wall, commented: “It is so exciting to be able to translate our experience of living history into an innovative and engaging entertainment format and we are thrilled that we have partnered with GroupM Entertainment and Channel 4 to make it happen.”
While Tony Moulsdale, Head of Programming at GroupM Entertainment said: “We were impressed by the scale and ambition of Time Crashers as soon as we saw it. It’s very different from anything we’ve seen before and a compelling series to have as our first with Wall to Wall.”
