USA Network has handed a pilot order to drama project Mr. Robot, the network announced at their executive session at the TCA 2014 Summer Press Tour today.
Mr. Robot follows Elliot, a computer programmer with a social disorder who decides that he can only connect to people by hacking them. He wields his skills as a weapon to protect the people that he cares about. Elliot will find himself in the intersection between a cybersecurity firm he works for and the underworld organizations that are recruiting him to bring down corporate America.
The drama hails from Sam Esmail, who wrote the script, and s Steve Golin and Chad Hamilton, both of whom will executive produce the Universal Cable Productions produced pilot.
“Mr. Robot is a visionary drama.” said Chris McCumber, President of USA Network. “It is a very timely and relatable story that captures both the excitement and danger of today’s digital world.”
At USA Network, Mr. Robot joins political drama Stanistan, about State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists who operate in a delicate balance of danger and levity, which received a pilot order ahead of USA’s upfront in May.
