BBC Two has released the first trailer for the upcoming second season of their hit drama series The Fall, which is set to air in the coming months.
The Fall revolves around a PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) investigation in Belfast into a string of Murders. After the PSNI are unable to make any progress on the case(s), Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson, who is on secondment from London’s Metropolitan Police Service, arrives at the Belfast police station to review the murder investigation and close the case.
Allan Cubbit created the drama series, which is produced by Artists Studio and stars Gillian Anderson, Jamie Dornan, Archie Panjabi, Bronagh Waugh, Emmett Scanlan, Karen Hassan, John Lynch and Simon Delaney. Both RTE in Ireland and Netflix in the United States are on board for the second season, with both providing financing alongside other partners. Cast additions for season two include Claire Rafferty, Colin Morgan, Jonjo O’Neill, Patrick Fitzsymons, Bronágh Taggart and Tim Loane.
The show’s second season is poised to the pick up from the season one finale which saw serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) evading the police investigation headed by Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson). A personal link from Spector’s past opens up some clues for Gibson but provokes Spector in ways that threatens to jeopardise the whole investigation. Gibson is forced to take ever greater risks but the closer she comes to capturing him, the more Spector trespasses into her private world, delighting in taunting and provoking her. As the net gradually tightens around him he becomes psychologically ever more dangerous and destructive.
