Fresh Meat alum Zawe Ashton has been cast as the lead in Channel 4’s civil service dramedy Cut, TVWise has learned.
Cut is as six episode workplace dramedy about a group of civil servants. The series follows the shattered personal and professional lives of a disparate group of highly dysfunctional civil servants who are forced to relocate from London to Northampton following government cuts.
Zawe Ashton will play Katherine, a recent divorcee in her 30s who is forced to relocate to Northampton to join the Immigration Pathway department after she is turned down for an attractive redundancy package.
The cast also includes Sacha Dhawan (24: Live Another Day) as Danny, Anastasia Hille (Prey) as Jeffries, Sophie Rundle (Happy Valley) as Jenny, Jo Hartley (The Mimic) as Angela, Tom Weston Jones (Spooks) as Anthony and Samuel Barnett (Twenty Twelve) as Nathaniel.
Cut was created by DC Moore and is being produced by Misifts indie Clerkenwell Films. Jemma Rodgers is set to produce the series, while both Kieron Hawkes (The Mimic) and Rob McKillop (Young Doctor’s Notebook) are attached to direct. The executive producers are Murray Ferguson and Andy Baker. Production begins this Summer in Glasgow for an Autumn 2014 premiere.
