TVWise presents our hot picks of must see television for the week ahead.
This week sees the return of Canadian drama Motive, Fox comedies New Girl and The Mindy Project; while Almost Human and Penny Dreadful continue their respective runs and Law & Order: UK‘s eighth season comes to a close.

Motive (Universal Channel – Monday June 9th, 9pm)
The Canadian drama returns to UK screens for its second season on Universal Channel. The show returns with an episode in which the team investigates a case of an apparent suicide, which Angie believes is in fact a homicide. Meanwhile, the team must adapt when their new commanding officer (Warren Christie) arrives.
New Girl (E4 – Tuesday June 10th, 9pm)
Fox’s critically acclaimed comedy returns to E4 for its third season. Things pick up directly from the season two finale with Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) prepare to go “all in” on their relationship, while Schmidt has a decision to make following Cece’s aborted wedding.
Almost Human (Watch – Tuesday June 10th, 9pm)
Fox’s short-lived sci-fi drama continues its run on UKTV’s Watch channel with Kennex and Dorian investigating a death at a hospital. The case takes a sudden turn, however, when it emerges that case connected to the a black market for human organs.
Penny Dreadful (Sky Atlantic – Tuesday June 10th, 9pm)
The wonderfully gothic drama, which was just picked up for a 10 episode second season, continues with Van Helsing being hired by Sir Malcolm to work alongside Dr Frankenstein to find a cure for the disease that may be plaguiong his daughter.
The Mindy Project (E4 – Tuesday June 10th, 9:30pm)
In the second season premiere, Mindy returns from Haiti expecting to have to save her practice, only to discover that the office got on fine without her. James Franco guest stars as Dr Paul Leotard, Dr Mindy Lahiri’s replacement while she was on her volunteer mission in Haiti.
Law & Order: UK (ITV – Wednesday June 11th, 9pm)
After being delayed for several weeks, the season finale, which may well be THE final episode following the decision to “rest” the drama, finally hits ITV. With a new boss atop the squad, Ronnie and Joe must quickly close a stabbing case, especially as that new boss had made knife crime a top priority.
Secrets Of Britain (Yesterday – Wednesday June 11th, 9pm)
In this week’s episode, Secrets of Britain takes a look at Scotland Yard, the HQ of the Metropolitan Police Service. The documentary series explores the early days of force, the detectives of the past and the origins of today’s modern day policing techniques.
Mock The Week (BBC Two – Thursday June 12th, 10pm)
The panel show returns for its thirteenth season, once again hosted by Dara O’Briain. Guest panellists for the opening episode includes Milton Jones, Ed Byrne, Katherine Ryan and Romesh Ranganathan.
