Universal Channel has sealed a deal with Sony Pictures Television to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to USA Network’s Necessary Roughness. The series is set to premiere on Universal Channel on Wednesday July 16th at 10pm.
Necessary Roughness follows Long Island therapist Dr. Dani Santino, whose personal life unravelled when she found her husband cheating. Diving fully into her work, she takes on the challenge of rehabilitating a bad boy professional New York Hawks football player and soon finds herself a sought-after therapist to high-profile clients such as Athletes, musicians and politicians.
The drama series was created by Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro and ran for three seasons on USA Network, before being cancelled on November 20th 2013. A co-production between Sony Pictures Television & Universal Cable Productions, Necessary Roughness stars Callie Thorne, Mehcad Brooks, Marc Blucas, Scott Cohen, Patrick Johnson and Hannah Marks.
The USA Network drama, which ran for a total of 38 episodes, is the latest scripted buy for Universal Channel. The broadcaster just today announced the acquisition of the upcoming TNT series The Librarians and over the past year have acquired a wealth of high-profile US dramas including Sleepy Hollow, Graceland and Rake. Universal Channel is also the exclusive home to TNT’s Major Crimes and A&E’s hit drama Bates Motel.
