ITV Studios Global Entertainment has sold the upcoming Thunderbirds CGI reboot Thunderbirds Are Go! to Australia’s Nine Network.
ITVSGE’s deal with Nine Network will see the Australian FTA broadcaster air Thunderbirds Are Go! on their youth-skewing digital channel GO! in 2015, shortly after the series premieres on ITV and CITV in the UK. Per the licensing deal, the re-imagined series, which has an initial order for 26 episodes, will also be made available via 9jumpin’s VOD service.
Thunderbirds Are Go! will use a combination of CGI animation and live-action models and will pay tribute to the legacy of model locations from the classic series. ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures are producing with a voice cast that includes Rosamund Pike and David Graham. The executive producers are Estelle Hughes, Giles Ridge, Richard Taylor and Andrew Smith.
“Thunderbirds is an iconic and much-loved show, so it’s no surprise that we have had such enormous interest in Thunderbirds Are Go! from potential TV, digital and licensing partners worldwide”, said Maria Kyriacou, MD of ITV Studios Global Entertainment. “The show has long been close to the hearts of Australian audiences, so we are delighted that new and existing fans alike will have the opportunity to enjoy the new series.”
While Martin Hersov, Nine Network’s Director of Commercial Development, added: “The classic Thunderbirds episodes have been a regular feature on the Nine schedule since the very beginning, so we are extremely pleased to be working with ITV Studios Global Entertainment on this exciting new series. We look forward to working with the full range of partners for this iconic property within the Australian market.”
