TBS is continuing their series pickups today with a green-light for Buzzy’s, the workplace comedy set in a barbershop which hails from Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick.
Buzzy’s (formerly known as Clipsters) follows a group of kids from high school who ran in different circles but now all work together at a local barbershop in Charlestown, Massachusetts, called Buzzy’s which was recently bought by one-time loser Ben. Since taking over the establishment, Ben has become the boss to many of his old classmates, and he’s not afraid to flaunt his more powerful position.
The comedy series has been in development at TBS for more than a year and received a pilot order at the network back in March 2014. Buzzy’s is produced by Warner Bros’ cable division Warner Horizon Television in association with KoMut Entertainment and stars Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), Mike Castle (Family Trap), Lauren Lapkus (Orange Is the New Black), Ryan Pinkston (Tower Prep), Matt Cook (True Blood) and George Wendt (Cheers).
“With its unique setting, terrific cast and sharp writing, Buzzy’s puts a fresh spin on the workplace comedy,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We’re especially excited to be marking our first venture with executive producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, whose Will & Grace stands as one of the funniest sitcoms ever made.”
This is the second scripted comedy to receive a green-light at TBS in the past few hours. The Turner owned cable network has also picked up the Rashida Jones fronted cop comedy Angie Tribeca. That comedy also received a ten episode order and is eyed for a 2015 premiere. Word has it that TBS is not done with their pick ups just yet and that a series order for Your Family Or Mine is coming down later today.
