Syfy has acquired the second season of Canadian supernatural drama Bitten from international distributor Entertainment One (eOne).
Based on the Otherworld novels by Kelley Armstrong, Bitten tells the story of Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. The drama series is produced by No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment, & eOne in association with Space & Bell Media and stars Laura Vandervoort (Ted) as Elena Michaels, Greg Bryk (Rookie Blue) as werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers, Greyston Holt (Alcatraz) as Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend Clayton Danvers, and Paul Greene (The Client List) as Elena’s current beau, Philip McAdams.
The acquisition of the show’s second season, which was ordered by Canadian broadcaster Space earlier this month, comes after the first season built up a loyal audience at Syfy, with an L7 audience of 1.1 million total viewers. Bitten is one of numerous acquired series on Syfy. Other such series include Lost Girl, Spartacus and the upcoming The Almighty Johnsons. The second season of Bitten is slated to premiere on Syfy in 2015.
“Bitten is a fast-paced and edgy series which has found a growing and passionate fan base on our channel”, said Chris Regina, Senior Vice President of Programming for Syfy. ”We’re delighted to bring the series back to Syfy next year.”
While Prentiss Fraser, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales & Acquisitions for eOne Television International, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the tremendous support and enthusiasm from fans across social media since the debut of Bitten. We look forward to working with the talented cast and crew on another compelling season and continuing our partnership with Syfy in bringing the series back to viewers in the U.S. next year.”
