Lifetime UK has ordered a local adaptation of the US series Dance Moms, marking the first such format adaptation for the hit unscripted series.
The UK version, titled Dance Mums, will feature actress, musical theatre star & award-winning dancer Jennifer Ellison as well as her dance school “Fame School”. The series has received an order for 8 hour-long episodes and is being produced by the ITV Studios owned production company Shiver. The executive producer is Miles Jarvis.
Dance Mums is the fourth original series that Lifetime UK has commissioned since they launched back in November 2013. Other original commissions have included The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet, The Proposers and Frisky Business. The first season of Dance Mums is currently in production for a late 2014 premiere.
“I watch Dance Moms and Abby Lee Miller on Lifetime so I am delighted to be part of a UK version”, said Jennifer Ellison. “I can promise drama, humour and a lot of entertainment. I won’t let anything that isn’t West End leading lady standard go out that door!”
While Heather Jones, Vice-President of Programming for A+E Networks UK, added: “With its mix of superbly talented kids, larger than life personalities and jaw-dropping conflict, Dance Moms is one of the most popular reality series on Lifetime. We are committed to investing in original UK content and this new commission will give our viewers the perfect companion series to the show they already love.”
