Series leads David Tennant and Olivia Colman are amongst the actors who are set to reprise their roles on the second season of hit drama series Broadchurch, ITV and producer Kudos Film & Television announced today.
Created by Chris Chibnall (Law & Order: UK), the first season of Broadchurch told the story of a small community which is rocked when the dead body of Danny Latimer is found on the beach and the ensuing police investigation. The drama series is produced by Kudos Film & TV in association with BBC America and during season one starred David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Vicky McClure, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Will Mellor and Arthur Darvill.
Plot details for the show’s second season are being kept firmly under wraps, but ITV has confirmed that David Tennant will reprise his role as Alec Hardy, whilst Olivia Colman will reprise her role as Ellie Miller. Tennant’s appearance in the show’s second run had been in question ever since he was cast in Gracepoint, the US version of Broadchurch being produced for Fox. Also confirmed for season two is Jodie Whittaker as Beth Latimer, Andrew Buchan as Mark Latimer, and Arthur Darvill as Paul Coates.
“We’re delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we’re remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops,” said ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November. “Suffice to say Chris has delivered as always and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series.”
While executive producer Jane Feathersone added: “The reaction to Broadchurch from UK viewers has been incredible. So we’d like viewers to enjoy the new series knowing as little as possible about what’s to come and for the story to unfold in real time.”
