Charlotte Rampling (Dexter, Restless) has joined the cast of ITV’s drama series Broadchurch for its upcoming second season, TVWise has learned.
Created by Chris Chibnall (Law & Order: UK), the first season of Broadchurch told the story of a small community which is rocked when the dead body of Danny Latimer is found on the beach and the ensuing police investigation. The drama series is produced by Kudos Film & TV in association with BBC America and during season one starred David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Vicky McClure, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Will Mellor and Arthur Darvill.
Much like wider plot details relating to season two, details of Rampling’s role are being kept firmly under wraps, with ITV merely stating that the internationally acclaimed actress will play a “major role.” The news of her casting comes less than 24 hours after ITV confirmed that season one regulars David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill would all be returning for the new run of episodes.
“Charlotte Rampling! We’ve been keeping this secret for months, it’s been agony!” said series creator Chris Chibnall. “We have another big story to tell this year, and that meant finding exceptional actors for new roles. There’s none more exceptional than Charlotte: to be writing for her is a dream come true. As you can imagine, Charlotte’s character is an integral part of our new story — but that’s where we’re drawing a veil, for now…”
