CBS Passes On ‘How I Met Your Dad’, 20th Century Fox Television To Shop Pilot To Other Networks

CBS has passed on their How I Met Your Mother spin-off How I Met Your Dad.

How I Met Your Dad is not a straight spin-off of How I Met Your Mother but “shares the same creative DNA” and tells the story for a female point of view. The comedy follows Sally (Greta Gerwig), who, though considering breaking up with her Husband, finds support in her close-knit group of friends. The comedy is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and stars Greta Gerwig, Drew Tarver, Tiya Sircar, Nick D’Agosto and Andrew Santino. Meg Ryan also has a role in the series. The executive producers are Pam Fryman, Emily Spivey, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.

The decision to pass on the pilot comes after rumour emerged last week that the comedy had landed a series order at CBS, however, Nina Tassler confirmed today that they were not moving forward with the project. The rights to the comedy will (as of tomorrow) revert to series producer 20th Century Fox Television, who do intent to shop the comedy, once considered a lock for a series order, to other networks. Sister network Fox would seem like a likely suitor, especially given their lack of comedy pick ups ahead of their own upfront presentation earlier this week.
