UKTV has racked up international sales for a number of original commissions.

The multi-channel broadcaster has lined up deals with BBC Worldwide and Australian broadcaster Foxtel for Dave’s One Night Stand, Find My Past and Valentine Warner Eats Scandinavia. Foxtel has picked up all four seasons of Dave’s One Night Stand for their Comedy Channel, the Yesterday commission Find My Past for their History Channel and Valentine Warner Eats Scandinavia for their LifeStyle Food channel. Meanwhile, BBC Worldwide has snapped up Valentine Warner Eats Scandinavia for their BBC Lifestyle channel in the Nordics and the Middle East.

The slew of international deals follows a major investment on the part of UKTV in original content, with a budget of £110 million. It also comes after the company recently moved into direct sales once it became apparent that there was strong interest from international broadcasters to secure pre-sales and acquire original UKTV programming. That said, UKTV still works with numerous international distributors such as DCD Rights and Passion Distribution, who just recently sold Watch’s The Happenings to National Geographic in the United States.

“During the past 12 months UKTV has been in conversation with a wide variety of overseas broadcasters about its past, current and future commissioned content”, said Jonathan Newman, UKTV’s Head of Programme Distribution. “The fact there’s so much interest in our programming is testament to its breadth and depth of audience appeal. UKTV is fast becoming internationally renowned for originating popular, high-quality content and these new deals are a demonstration of that.”

While Rachel Bailey, BBC Worldwide’s Head of Programming, Western Europe, added: “Food programming is key to BBC Lifestyle’s strategy and we’re always looking for new and exciting content which offers a fresh and contemporary perspective on the food we eat. We are confident that our Nordic and Middle Eastern audiences, who already know and love Val Warner and his food philosophy, will also welcome the beautifully shot Valentine Warner Eats Scandinavia on the channel.”
