Turner Broadcasting has tapped BBC Worldwide executive Ian McDonough to lead their Northern European operations, TVWise has learned.
The international broadcaster, which runs such channels as Cartoon Network, TNT, CNN and TCM, today appointed McDonough to the position of Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Northern Europe. In said role, McDonough will lead Turner’s business across the UK, the Nordics and the Baltic region. He will be based in London and will report to Giorgio Stock, President of Turner Broadcasting EMEA.
“I recognised in Ian a determination, energy and ambition which is an excellent match for Turner as we are well positioned for growth. This combined with his considerable track record and passion for developing new business will be a tremendous asset”, said Giorgio Stock, President of Turner Broadcasting EMEA. “We have recently enjoyed some great ratings wins within the UK and Ian is extremely well placed to lead in a region that is experimenting with vast innovation and fast adapting user experiences, especially in the digital space.”
As Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Northern Europe, McDonough’s responsibilities will include leading the growth and development of Turner’s operations in the UK, Nordics and Baltic region, overseeing CNNI distribution and commercial operations, identifying areas for driving revenues and profits, overseeing P&L and ensuring consistency and strategy for the region.
McDonough’s appointment is the latest in a long line of strategic moves on the part of Turner Broadcasting as they reorganise their growing international channels business. He joins from BBC Worldwide where he most recently held the position of Executive Vice-President for CEMA (Central Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa), overseeing BBCWW’s television channels, content sales, consumer products, production and digital & home video sales in the region.
