TBS is heading back to the Ground Floor. The network has handed a 10 episode second season renewal to the workplace comedy which hails from Bill Lawrence, Greg Malins and Warner Horizon Television. TBS said that the show’s second season would premiere in late 2014.
Ground Floor marks the latest successful comedy launch for TNT’s sister network TBS. The network’s other successful comedy launches have included Men At Work, currently airing its third season; and Sullivan & Son, which returns for season three this Summer. TBS is also home to Lawrence’s Cougar Town, while the net’s attempts to get an hour-long comedy off the ground, which they tried most recently with Wedding Band, have thus far been unsuccessful.
The pick up of a second season comes after Ground Floor premiered to decent ratings for TBS. The comedy pulled in 1.6 million viewers for its series premiere, while the freshman run of Ground Floor averaged 1.8 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery, including 1.1 million adults 18-49 and 575,000 adults 18-34. Though that is down on some other recent scripted launches, such as the aforementioned Sullivan & Son, it still ranked as one of basic cable’s Top 10 original sitcoms of 2013 with adults 18-49.
Set in the modern world of corporate America, Ground Floor revolves around Brody, a young hot-shot banker at Whitestone Trust who thought he was just having a one-night stand with Jennifer, a beautiful woman he met at a bar. But when he discovers that she works in maintenance for the building where he works, their worlds begin to collide in the most unexpected way. Facing Brody’s critical boss, Mr. Mansfield, as well as annoyed colleagues, the pair must find a way to deal with their growing feelings for each other in this modern take on Romeo & Juliet. The comedy series stars Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Briga Heelan (Cougar Town), John C. McGinley (Scrubs), Rory Scovel (Zach Stone is Gonna be Famous) James Earl (Glee), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect) and Rene Gube (Upright Citizens Brigade).
