Channel 4 has ordered a new three-part observational documentary series titled Meet The Taxman, which looks at the inner-working of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.
Produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, Meet The Taxman will see various elements of HMRC at work from investigators targeting the “high risk” sectors such as scrap merchants and offshore bank accounts to the criminal investigation teams, who have the power to arrest, as they investigate organised crime. The producers have spent the past 12 month securing unique and unprecedented access to HM Revenue and Customs for the series. The executive producers Clare Hanford and Simon Ford.
“Money from taxation funds everything we value most about society, yet the team who collect it have often been viewed with mistrust and suspicion”, said Nick Mirsky, Channel 4’s Head of Documentaries. “What is exciting about this commission is that it offers unique access to a group of public servants on whom we are more dependent than ever to help make the nation’s books balance. It is a series that is important, fresh and timely – and will take us right into the heart of the battle to make everyone pay their fair share.”
