Channel 4 Acquires UK Rights To FX’s Limited Series ‘Fargo’

Channel 4 has sealed a deal with MGM Television to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Fargo, the upcoming 10 episode limited event series which premieres state-side on FX on April 15th. Fargo is expected to air on Channel 4 in late April, shortly after it premieres in the United States.

Written by novelist Noah Hawley, Fargo will feature an all-new “true crime” story, with the series following a new case and new characters, all entrenched in the trademark humor, murder and “Minnesota nice” that has made the film an enduring classic. The limited series is being produced by FX Productions & MGM Television and stars Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Collin Hanks, Kate Walsh, Joey King, Josh Close, Bob Odenkirk, Oliver Platt, Allison Tolman, Glenn Howerton, Peter Breitmayer, Tom Musgrave, Russell Harvard and Adam Goldberg.

The series, which is based on the feature film of the same name, is the latest in a long-line of limited event series that have been commissioned in recent months since the US networks returned to the format. Other such limited event series to have received the greenlight include Heroes: Reborn, The Slap and Rosemary’s Baby at NBC, DIG at USA Network, The Dovekeepers at CBS, while Fox has Wayward Pines, Gracepoint and 24: Live Another Day, which is currently filming in London and is set to air in the UK on Sky1 this May.

With the acquisition, Fargo becomes the latest US import to find a home on Channel 4. The free-to-air broadcaster has been the most aggressive buyer this season; having picked up 5 new shows for their portfolio of channels including Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hostages, The Tomorrow People, The 100 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The broadcaster is also the UK home to such series as The Big Bang Theory, Homeland, New Girl and The Good Wife.
