After more than a month of speculation, Amazon today confirmed that they had renewed their John Goodman fronted political comedy Alpha House for a second season and picked up a number of their pilots, including The After and Bosch, to series.
Created by Garry Trudeau, Alpha House follows four US senators renting a house together and struggling to keep their personal lives and exploits from tarring their public image as they fight for re-election. The comedy stars John Goodman (Roseanne, The West Wing), Clark Johnson (Homicide: Life On The Street), Matt Malloy (Six Feet Under) and Mark Consuelos (All My Children).
The renewal of Alpha House comes after the first season became the most popular TV season on Amazon Instant Video, collecting over 6,000 5-star reviews. Production on the show’s second season is slated to commence this summer, with Amazon tentatively eying a Fall premiere.
“We are delighted that Alpha House is a winner among Prime members,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “More than 6,000 customers gave the show a perfect five-star rating and have posted glowing, witty and compelling reviews asking for a second season. We’re excited to begin production and keep the story about these senators alive.”
Meanwhile, Amazon has handed series orders to six of their pilots. Said pilots getting the nod are The After, from The X-Files creator Chris Carter, Bosch from Michael Connelly and starring Titus Welliver, Transparent, fronted by Jeffrey Tambor, Mozart in the Jungle, toplined by Safrron Burrows and Malcom McDowell & Kids pilot Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street and Wishenpoof!.
“We had a tremendous response to Amazon Studios’ latest pilots—in fact, double the number of customers watched these pilots compared to our first season and they posted thousands of heartfelt reviews with pleas for us to continue these shows,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “Now the fun really begins—Amazon will be working with some of the most talented casts and creators in the business to bring six new shows exclusively to tens of millions of Prime members worldwide. These series, along with our summer kids programming, will give customers a lot of viewing choices.”
