Amazon Prime Instant Video UK has announced that the complete first season of the Amazon Studio’s comedy Betas, consisting of 11 episodes, will be released tomorrow (March 14th).
Betas follows four wanna-be entrepreneurs in the land of Silicon Valley start-ups as they develop their new dating and social app “BRB”, whilst desperately trying to win over investors and spread the word about the app they think will change the face of social media. The series, which was created by Evan Endicott and Josh Stoddard, is produced by Amazon Studios and stars Ed Begley Jr, Joe Dinicol, Karan Soni, Jon Daly and Charlie Saxton.
“Betas was an incredibly popular pilot when it was released in the UK last April and the show has already gone on to be a huge hit in the US. It’s punchy, funny and captures the fast-moving world of tech-startups in a comical and entertaining way” said Helen Cowley, Head of Programming at Amazon Prime Instant Video UK. “The humour is very similar to The Inbetweeners and Big Bang Theory… but at the same time in a class of its own. Fans of great comedy should definitely take a look. We think they’ll love it.”
Amazon’s strategy for their original series has been different in the US and the UK. Like Alphas House, Betas was released in the US on a weekly schedule, but for the UK market the company waited until LOVEFiLM had been rebranded to Amazon Prime Instant Video and then, using a strategy popularised by Netflix, released the complete seasons of their originals. Alpha House was first to be released in the UK, and is currently available to stream for Amazon Prime members.
