After star turns in Desperate Housewives and TNT’s Memphis Beat, Alfre Woodard has lined up her next regular television role.
The Copper alum has joined that cast of NBC’s drama pilot State of Affairs, which follows the exploits of a CIA briefer and is being toplined by Katherine Heigl. Woodard, repped by ICM Partners, has been tapped to play the key role of Roberta Payton, the President of the United States.
Penned by Alexi Hawley & Joe Carnahan, State of Affairs stars Katherine Heigl as a key CIA attaché who counsels the president on high-stakes incidents around the world. She balances her intense political responsibilities with a complicated personal life. Universal Television, Bob Simonds Company and Abishag Productions are producing with Katherine Heigl, Nancy Heigl, Hawley, Bob Simonds, Sophie Watts, Henry Crumpton, Julia Franz, Rodney Faraon and Carnahan – who is also attached to direct – serving as executive producers.
