Royal Pains alum Tom Cavanagh has joined the cast of The CW’s The Flash pilot, TVWise has learned.

Cavanagh has been cast as Harrison Wells, the mind and money behind Central City’s STAR Labs Particle Accelerator who becomes a pariah following the lab’s explosion. He joins a cast which is being led by Grant Gustin, who recently appeared on The CW’s Arrow playing the part of Barry Allen/The Flash. Rick Cosnett (The Vampire Diaries), Danielle Panabaker (Necessary Roughness), Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order), Candice Patton (The Game) and Carlos Valdes also star.

Based on the DC comic, The Flash is described as an origin story in the same vein of the WBTV/The CW series Arrow. The drama follows Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling City to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. The character, better known as The Flash, was recently introduced to viewers on the Winter finale of Arrow. The drama project is being produced by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions with Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter serving as executive producers. Nutter is also attached to direct.
