Lifetime is adding another scripted series to their line-up. The female skewing net has picked up their pilot Un-Real to series with a 10 episode order.
Penned by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, Un-Real is set against the backdrop of a hit dating competition show and follows Rachel, a young staffer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with and among the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage the program’s dispassionate executive producer demands. What ensues is a humorous, yet vexing, look at what happens in the world of unscripted television, where being a contestant can be vicious and producing it is a whole other reality. Un-Real stars Shiri Appleby (Girls), Megyn Price (Rules of Engagement), Freddie Stroma (Pitch Perfect), Josh Kelly (One Life To Live), Nathalie Kelley (The Fast and the Furious), Johanna Braddy (Shameless), Breeda Wool (Betas), Ashley Scott (Jericho) and Arielle Kebbel (The Vampire Diaries).
The comedy is the first Lifetime series to be solely financed and produced by the recently launched A+E Studios, the in-house production arm of Lifetime’s parent A+E Networks. International distribution is being handled by A+E Networks. “Un-Real is unlike anything that exists on television today”, said Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Lifetime. “It’s premium and original on every level, and we’re thrilled that Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro’s unique series will be Lifetime’s first program produced by A+E Studios.”
