Hawthorne star Jada Pinkett Smith is the latest Hollywood veteran to board Fox’s upcoming Batman prequel Gotham, TVWise had learned.
Pinkett Smith wil play the series regular role of Fish Mooney, a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner whose got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. She joins a cast which is being led by Southland alum Ben Mckenzie as Detective Gordon. Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy), Sean Pertwee (Jo), Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead), Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice) and Erin Richards (Being Human) also star.
The latest in a fairly long-line of comic-book inspired origin stories, Gotham examines the early years of James Gordon (McKenzie) in his years as a GCPD homicide detective, as well as the early years of Batman and the iconic villains of Gotham City. The drama hails from Warner Bros. Television and is being written by The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller who is also serving as an executive producer. Danny Cannon is directing the pilot and will also executive produce.
