HBO’s buzzy new series Looking has been renewed for a second season, TVWise has learned.
Created by Michael Lannan, Looking revolves around three friends in San Francisco who explore the fun and sometimes overwhelming options available to a new generation of gay men. The comedy series stars Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Murray Bartlett.
As part of the renewal, HBO has also upped Russell Tovey, Raul Castillo and Lauren Weedman, all of whom have been recurring on Looking, to series regulars for season two. Production on the show’s second season gets underway later this year in San Francisco, while the first season finale is scheduled to air on HBO on Sunday March 9th.
The renewal comes after the series, which debuted to a so-so 340K viewers, has posted weeks of successive ratings growth with the most recent episode averaging just north of 500K viewers. Across multiple platforms, HBO notes, the series has been averaging in excess of 2 million viewers.
