HBO will launch their new six episode comedy series on Wednesday March 19th at 10/9c, the network announced Monday.
Doll & Em is one of the few series to air exclusively on HBO which is not produced in-house by HBO Originals. The comedy, which hails from and stars The Newsroom alum Emily Mortimer & Dolly Wells, looks at what happens when your best friend becomes a Hollywood star and you find yourself employed as their personal assistant, and was originally developed & produced for BSkyB’s Sky Living, who premiered the series in the UK earlier this month. HBO acquired the comedy from BSkyB’s international distribution division Sky Vision in September 2013.
Doll & Em follows Em (Emily Mortimer), a successful actress starring in a Hollywood movie, who invites Doll (Dolly Wells) to Los Angeles to become her personal assistant after breaking up with her boyfriend, as a way for Doll to find the financial and emotional independence she is in need of. But soon after arriving, the line between life and work becomes increasingly blurred, until each one is no longer sure of the other’s motivation. The comedy series is produced by King Bee Productions with Lucy Lumsden serving as the executive producer, and Azazel Jacobs directing.
