John Goodman’s latest comedy series Alpha House is heading to the UK.
Amazon has announced that they will launch the comedy series, which is one of their first original series, in the UK tomorrow when their streaming serving re-brands from LOVEFiLM to Amazon Prime Instant Video. Following a release strategy popularised by Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video (UK) will make all 11 episodes of the show’s first season available to subscribers at once.
Alpha House follows four US senators renting a house together and struggling to keep their personal lives and exploits from tarring their public image as they fight for re-election. The comedy stars John Goodman (Roseanne, The West Wing), Clark Johnson (Homicide: Life On The Street), Matt Malloy (Six Feet Under) and Mark Consuelos (All My Children). Alpha House was created by Garry Trudeau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Elliot Webb and Jonathan Alter.
“Prime Instant Video is the UK’s largest movie and TV subscription steaming service with more than 15,000 great movies and TV episodes for our customers to enjoy. We’re delighted to be investing in great original content for our customers, and are very excited to debut Alpha House in the UK for our customers to enjoy,” said Tim Leslie, Vice President of Amazon Instant Video for the UK and Germany.
The release of Alpha House to UK subscribers comes after the comedy launched on Amazon in the US late last year. As noted above it also follows the streaming service’s re-brand in the UK and Germany, which is designed to allow Amazon to better compete with Netflix, who have been gaining traction in key markets, such as the UK, with their original series House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. To that end, the company recently inked a deal with Warner Bros. for the SVOD rights to Arrow, The Following, Hostages, The 100 and Revolution.
